Our Yanalangami Team are feeling so blessed, grounded, grateful, and connected after a gorgeous few days on sacred Yawuru Country, in Broome WA. Together with our Aboriginal Advisory Council (AAC), we facilitated a place-based in-person program for 20 First Nations women living locally.
We have been so privileged to connect and work closely with Nyamba Buru Yawuru (NBY), an Aboriginal-led and run grass-roots Community organisation based on Yawuru Country.
We were guided by our AAC made up of Aboriginal women leaders from Yawuru to co-design and co-facilitate our program, providing invaluable insight into the lives and experiences of First Nations women living on Yawuru Country; their hopes, dreams, barriers, and challenges. This meant we were able to design and deliver a personalised place-based program, allowing for maximum engagement, and positive impact and outcomes for our deadly Changemakers.
Our Aboriginal Advisory Council members were:
– Nini Mills; proud Yawuru & Bunuba woman and Chief Executive Officer at Nyamba Buru Yawuru
– Taliah Payne; proud Nimanburu women with cultural ties to Nyul Nyul, Djugun & Yawuru, and Executive Operating Officer at Nyamba Buru Yawuru
– Janine Dureau; proud Nyikina & Bunuba woman, and Chief Executive Officer at Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Council
Our Yawuru Program ran from Friday 11th October through to Sunday 13th October inclusive, and we were so grateful to have 20 deadly local women and Elders who are leaders in Yawuru Community come along and participate in the sessions. All of our amazing Changemakers were mindfully present, open, vulnerable, loving, and supportive throughout the program. We are eternally grateful and deeply grounded from this transformative experience.
