The Yanalangami: Strong Women, Strong Communities Program is a free leadership program empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to grow, lead, and create change in their communities.
This March, the Yanalangami: Strong Women, Strong Communities Program is coming to Kaurna Country, at Tauondi (Port Adelaide, SA)!
Our Yanalangami Program on Kaurna Yerta is a 3-day in-person gathering that will be held
from Tuesday 10th until Thursday 12th of March (inclusive) at Tauondi College.
This opportunity is open to 16 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women living in South Australia.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR YANALANGAMI: STRONG WOMEN, STRONG COMMUNITIES PROGRAM ON KAURNA YERTA 2026
Tranby Aboriginal Co-operative is Australia’s oldest and longest-running Aboriginal-controlled adult education provider. Tranby is a national organisation, and for almost 70 years has been delivering meaningful programs and courses for mob nationally. Tranby’s iconic campus located on Gadigal Land in Glebe, NSW.
In 2020, Tranby designed a self-governed program specifically for women, called “Yanalangami: Strong Women, Strong Communities”. Yanalagami is a Dharug Nation word meaning “We walk together, you and me”. The program has been successfully delivered over the last 5 years. It has been featured in the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Wiyi Yani U Thangani (Women’s Voices) Implementation Framework as a best practice example of place-based, gender responsive governance that centres and builds on First Nations’ women’s inherent leadership skills.
Below the Yanalangami: Strong Women, Strong Communities Program run on Kaurna Yerta (Country) sets out its terms and conditions. All applicants, both self-nominated and community-nominations, must read and agree to these Terms and Conditions before lodging their application.
1. TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1.1. The terms and conditions of the Yanalangami: Strong Women, Strong Communities In-person Community Program on Kaurna Yerta 2026 (“Program”) comprise:
a. these terms and conditions; and
b. the application forms to be completed by the Applicant (“Application Form”)(together, “Terms and Conditions”).
1.2. By participating in the Program, Applicants agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.
1.3. In these Terms and Conditions,
a. “Applicant” means a person who has completed an Application Form.
b. “Finalists” means a person who has been selected.
2. OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM
Subject to the Terms and Conditions:
2.1. the Program is administered by the Tranby Aboriginal Co-operative Limited (“Tranby”).
2.2. the intent of the Program is to discover and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who are making a positive impact in community. The program aims to recognise and promote community role models whose work or activities create a positive benefit for others in various ways, including but not limited to: advancing the status of women and girls; creating civic engagement; violence prevention; nurturing a sense of belonging and inclusion; help build community resilience; promoting positive health and wellbeing; improving access to Community services and groups; protecting and caring for the local environment. The program aims to provide an opportunity for the Finalists to enhance their leadership and governance skills through culturally meaningful and community relevant training via online workshop programs as well as mentoring and project support. The workshop series seeks to strengthen leadership capacity, foster good governance, civic engagement, mentorship and sustainable grassroots change.
2.3. to be eligible, Applicants must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman, aged 18 years or older, who currently lives in South Australia, and;
a. Be available to attend in-person during the Program dates, 10 March until 12 March (inclusive) 2026 at Tauondi College, Port Adelaide, SA; and
b. Have the capacity to provide their own travel and accommodation for the duration of the Program.
2.4. Applicants must also demonstrate that they are individuals who are (or seek to) create positive, grassroots and sustainable change within and for Community and support the intent of the program as outlined in 2.2.
2.5. the application process commences at 9am (AEST) on 30 January 2026 and applications close 11:59pm (AEST) on Sunday 8 February 2026 (“Application Period”). Tranby may, at its absolute discretion, extend the Application Period.
2.6. the selection of Finalists will be by the members of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee (“AAC”) engaged by Tranby to oversee the Program, including selecting Finalists. The selection will take place between 10 February 2026 and 25 February 2026 (“Selection Period”). Tranby may, at its absolute discretion, extend the Selection Period.
2.7. up to 16 Finalists who, in the absolute discretion of the AAC, meet the Selection Criteria for “Community Changemaker” will be awarded the title “Community Changemaker Finalist” and will receive a place in Tranby’s Yanalangami in-person Community Program on Kaurna Yerta.
3. WHO CAN APPLY?
3.1. An Applicant must meet the following criterion:
a. Meet the standards set out in sections 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4. The Applicant’s actions or work must, in the opinion of the Program’s AAC, positively impact community.
b. For an Applicant to be eligible for the Program, the Applicant must be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman currently living in South Australia. The Application must demonstrate, to the AAC’s complete satisfaction, that the Applicant meets the above criteria. Should the above requirements not be met, Tranby and/or the AAC reserves the right in its absolute discretion to refuse to accept the Application.
c. Applicants must be at least age 18 at the date of the program commencing.
3.2. Employees of Tranby are not eligible to be an Applicant.
3.3. Tranby reserves the right to refuse any Application due to a conflict of interest which is determinable by Tranby at its absolute discretion.
4. HOW TO APPLY
4.1. To enter the Program, Applicants must, during the Application Period, complete the Application Form (a completed Application Form is herein referred to as a “Application”).
4.2. Tranby and/or the AAC, may at their absolute discretion, accept or reject Applications which contain errors and/or omissions. Failure by Tranby to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
4.3. Incomplete or indecipherable Applications may be deemed invalid at Tranby’s absolute discretion.
4.4. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an Applicant, Tranby reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to determine the identity of that person.
4.5. No responsibility is accepted by Tranby for late, lost or misdirected Applications (including where an Application Form is not received due to any technical difficulties).
5. APPLICATION
5.1. By entering the Program, Applicants acknowledge and agree that:
a. the Program is conducted at Tranby’s absolute discretion, and if the Program is not conducted as anticipated due to any reason, Tranby reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to the full extent permitted by law to:
b. disqualify any Application; or
c. modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the Program;
d. There may only be one Applicant per Application;
e. Tranby may contact an Applicant at any time in relation to the Program during the Application Period, Selection Period, and Promotion Period (as applicable);
f. There is no obligation or requirement on Tranby to promote, use or display any information (including Personal Information, as defined in clause 11.1) provided in the Application, including but not limited to the Applicant’s name, suburb, state, photo and a description of their change initiative;
g. In entering the Program, the Applicants will not transfer files (including photos) which contain viruses or other harmful programs;
h. Tranby is under no obligation to communicate in any way with an Applicant in connection with the Program, including in respect of any Application; and
i. Uploading a photo of the Applicant will not infringe the copyright or other rights of any third party, or infringe any applicable laws or regulations.
5.2. Applicants acknowledge that by participating in the Program they may, if requested by Tranby, be required to confirm or provide additional information in respect of any Application (either by phone, email, Zoom or other video conferencing platform or in person) to Tranby during the Program.
5.3. By entering the Program, Applicants represent and warrant that all information provided by them to Tranby in the Application or otherwise in connection with the Program is true and correct, and not misleading or deceptive by omission or otherwise.
5.4. Tranby may request proof of a valid Working With Children Check or other State child protection checks for those Applicants who work or engage with children.
5.5. Tranby may request from the Applicant contact details of a referee who Tranby may contact to verify any information contained in the Application. The Applicant must obtain all permissions and consents to provide Tranby with the contact details of the referee. If requested by Tranby, the Applicant must provide Tranby with evidence of such consent and permission.
5.6. Referees may be Community Elders, Aunties, corporate partners, government or community agencies or someone who works with or has worked with the Applicant.
5.7. Tranby reserves the right, at any time, in its discretion:
a. to verify the validity of Applications (including the identities of Applicants);
b. to disqualify (at Tranby’s absolute discretion) any Application from the Program that is not made in accordance with the Terms and Conditions, which has omissions or which Tranby otherwise deems inappropriate; and
c. to vary these Terms and Conditions, or to cancel, postpone or reschedule the Program.
6. SELECTION PERIOD
6.1. During the Selection Period, Tranby:
a. will review the Applications to determine the Applicants who are Finalists (Finalists) in the Program. The Review panel is made up of the Program’s AAC;
may ask Applicants to participate in further interviews or other selection activities to assist in shortlisting Applicants. Applicants must make themselves reasonably available to participate in any such interviews or other selection activities;
b. may conduct reference checks (with the referee nominated by the Applicant under clause 6.5) and/or online open source checks in respect of the Applicant;
c. may, in its absolute discretion, shortlist Applicants as Finalists based on their Application, interviews and reference checks conducted by Tranby.
6.2. Upon selection, Finalists’ names, a photograph and information pertaining to their relevant work or activities will be published on the Tranby and Yanalangami websites, on Tranby and Yanalangami social media and on campus at Tranby in Glebe.
6.3. Tranby reserves the right to commence reviewing Applications prior to the commencement of the Selection Period.
6.4. Finalists must maintain the confidentiality of their status as a Finalist at Tranby’s direction.
7. AWARD
7.1. In this Program, Finalists will be awarded a place in the Yanalangami in-person Community Program on Kaurna Yerta, which will:
a. Provide a 3-day in-person program for Community Changemaker Finalists (up to 16 Finalists) at Tauondi College in Port Adelaide on Kaurna Country; and
b. Include lunch provided each day to support participants during the program;
7.2. Transport and accommodation will not be provided as part of the Program. Finalists are responsible for making their own travel and lodging arrangements. Documentation to support workplace approval for attendance can be provided upon request.
7.3 Finalists will make themselves reasonably available to participate in any interviews, photography shoots and other activities to produce new content to promote the Program during the Promotion Period. This content will be made publicly available, including online and on social media. All rights, title and interest in any such content will vest with Tranby.
7.4. Notwithstanding any provision of these Terms and Conditions, Tranby reserves the right at any time to:
a. remove a Finalist from the Program for any reason whatsoever, including but not limited to if Tranby determines (at its absolute discretion) that any conduct by the person does not align with the standards and values of Tranby and the Program or otherwise detracts from the goodwill and reputation attached to Tranby and the Program.
8. NOTIFICATION
8.1. Tranby will notify the Finalists by 24th February 2026 (Notification Period) in a manner to be determined by Tranby.
8.2. Upon notification to Finalists, the Finalists’ names, a photograph and information pertaining to the work or activities (as provided by the Applicant) may be published on the Tranby and Yanalangami websites and on Tranby and Yanalangami Program social media.
9. LIABILITY
9.1. Except for any liability that cannot be excluded by law, Tranby (including its officers, employees, agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the Program, including, but not limited to, where arising out of the following:
a.the outcome of the Program;
b. any technical difficulties relating to submission or receipt of Applications;
c. any unauthorized access or third-party interference;
d. any Application that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (as applicable); due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of Tranby;
e. any termination or cancellation of the Program;
f. any variation in the Award program to that stated in the Terms and Conditions;
g. any tax liability incurred by a Finalist.
10. PRIVACY STATEMENT
10.1. From 27 January 2026 until 31 March 2026 (“Promotion Period”), Applicants and Finalists consent to Tranby collecting, using and displaying any information relating to them (including personal information as defined by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (“Personal Information”)) provided in an Application or otherwise collected from them during the Program, in any media without remuneration for the purposes of promoting and marketing the Program or any future Strong Women, Strong Communities or Leadership and Empowerment programs.
10.2. Tranby may use and display such information for the abovementioned purposes online (including social media) or on campus at Tranby, or otherwise make public any details of the same, at any time during the Promotion Period.
10.3. All rights, title and interest in any such content created for the purposes of promoting and marketing the Program will vest with Tranby.
10.4. The Personal Information that the Applicant or Finalist provide will be collected by Tranby for the purpose of conducting the Program and managed in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Participation in the Program is conditional on providing this information. Tranby may disclose this Personal Information to its employees, contractors and agents to assist in operating the Program or communicating with Applicants.
10.5. If an Applicant wishes access or to correct any Personal Information Tranby holds about that person, or to complain about a privacy breach by Tranby, an Applicant should contact Tranby at reception@tranby.edu.au
